Set deep in the Sintra forest, this clay-pink property houses an artist-run printmaking studio and publishing workshop. The client’s goal was to create a sustainable, low-impact space that felt integrated into its wooded surroundings; a place to work, host workshops, and welcome collaborators.

Originally conceived as a conversion of an old storage shed, the project was transferred to LandingPad in the planning stage after an initial contractual halt. It required a complete recalibration of both design and process to meet local planning and licensing requirements and deliver within a compressed timeline.

Given the region’s intense humidity and the sensitivity of printmaking materials, LandingPad implemented targeted measures to protect against damp and mildew. This included heavily insulating the eight-metre-high timber frame and installing underfloor heating for thermal stability and year-round comfort.

Every design choice served both form and function. Lime-plastered walls maintain breathability and exude a quiet, natural warmth. Reclaimed roof beams ensure structural durability, while expansive, handmade timber windows flood the interior with light and blur the boundary between inside and out. The result is a fully operational workspace anchored seamlessly in its wooded surroundings.
